Our Aesthetician Services
When it comes to Cosmetic Dermatology, there is no substitute for a good skin care regimen. This starts with a good facial cleanser and moisturizer, followed by the daily application of a sunscreen to prevent the process of photo-aging (chronic damage to the skin from sunlight). However, many of us have already experienced the signs of sun damage and aging of the skin. Beyond skin care, there are many treatment options that we use at South Tyler Dermatology that can help build upon your anti-aging regimen. We offer free cosmetic consultations to determine the best plan for you.
Botulinum toxin A has been FDA approved for cosmetic use since 2002. It inhibits contraction of certain facial muscles that lead to lines and wrinkles, and is most commonly used to soften and erase lines on the forehead, lines around the eyes (crow’s feet), and frown lines. Treatments are safe with minimal side effects, and maximum effect is usually achieved by 2 weeks. Pricing is based on how many units are used, which depends on the size and strength of your facial muscles. Typically, we can provide pricing packages that treat the area desired.
Chemical peels are treatments used to rejuvenate the skin by reversing photo-damage and improving the skin color, texture, smoothness and luminosity. They can also be used to help with brown discoloration of the face (dyspigmentation) and acne. Application of chemical peels usually has very little discomfort, and they are safe for all skin types. After treatment, peeling can be expected for 1-3 days along with possible pinkness and mild itching of the skin. Chemical peels can be a valuable addition to a good skin care regimen. Depending on the desired results and baseline complexion, we may recommend a series of peels spaced a month apart. A cosmetic consultation can determine the best course of treatment for you.
IPL refers to the usage of a broad band of pulsed light (NOT a laser) to improve the appearance of red and brown discoloration of the skin. This treatment can be effective in the treatment of sun spots, broken blood vessels, rosacea, melasma and to brighten the overall skin tone. After a treatment, there may be slight redness and darkening of existing brown spots before they flake off after a few days. Contrary to other devices such as lasers, there is virtually no downtime associated with this procedure. Usually, the most benefit is experienced when used in a series of treatments (on average 3-5). Maintenance treatments once or twice a year can help to keep your face looking its best.
Laser Hair Removal
There are several different types of lasers that can be used for laser hair removal (reduction). At South Tyler Dermatology, we employ the LightSheer Infinity laser for this purpose. This laser is effective at removing or reducing unwanted hair with fewer treatments than many other lasers for maximum results. The LightSheer Infinity laser is virtually pain free and treatment times are significantly lessened with this laser technology. It is important to note that darker hair responds best to laser hair removal, and lighter colors such as white, grey, or very blonde hair may not be a good candidate. This is due to the fact that the target in the skin for the laser is the hair pigment. Additionally, darker skin types may carry a risk of hypo or hyperpigmentation of the skin due to the presence of increased pigment overall. In these situations, Dr. Lambert will determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure, and may perform a “test spot” treatment to ensure proper response.
Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation technique that removes surface debris known as the outermost layers of the skin with a custom dermaplaning blade. It will rid the skin of all fine vellus hair, peach fuzz, and there is no downtime associated with this procedure. This process is painless and a very safe treatment for the face. The benefits of dermaplaning include increased absorption of products, removes unwanted vellus hair and dead layer of skin to create a healthier glowing appearance for every skin type.
Microneedling is a collagen induction therapy (CIT). It is a minimally invasive skin -rejuvenation procedure that involves the use of a device that contains fine needles. The needles are used to puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury. Each puncture creates a channel that triggers the body to fill these microscopic wounds by producing new collagen and elastin. You will see better skin texture as a result.
